What is one reason these murderous individuals choose a school to shoot up? Schools are gun-free zones, is why. Gun-free school zones are ineffective. They make people less safe by inviting criminals to come in and kill as many people as they can without anyone shooting back. How come you never see a sign in a liberals yard that says “A gun free home”? Because they know gun free zones are stupid. So why is a school, the place we send our most precious cargo, a gun free zone?
In January of 2017, U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced H.R. 34, the Safe Students Act, which would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. This would allow security guards, administrators, teachers, and parents to protect their students. This bill has the support of three major gun organizations:
- National Association for Gun Rights
- Gun Owners of America
- National Rifle Association
Also has the support of Columbine survivor Evan Todd.
Cosponsors include: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Rep. James Comer (R-KY), Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA), and Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX)
This is surely a debate worth having, especially with the recent school shootings in Texas, California, Florida, Maryland, Alabama, and Kentucky to name a few. One fact is laws do not stop these crazy people from coming on school grounds and destroying as many lives as possible. Then waiting on law enforcement to get there, which could take several minutes. These are minutes that these children and teachers do not generally have.
Thomas Massie stated,
“The solution to school shootings is putting more than one-armed guard at school or allowing teachers to be armed” adding “And we’ve labeled all of our schools as gun free zones. We need to take those labels off, and put our kids in that two percent category of being safe, instead of being in that 98 percent vulnerable category”
Gun-free zones prevented Aaron Feis, an assistant football coach and a security monitor at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida from having a firearm to protect the kids at that school. Instead he gave his life by using his body to stop the bullets from hitting those kids.
